In just a few short weeks the Cambridge family will be swapping their Kensington Palace home for the cosiness of Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Estate. It's a move that has been in the works for some time, and will mean the Cambridge clan are closer to Her Majesty who recently left Buckingham Palace.

But being neighbours with their great-grandmother isn't the only change that's on the horizon for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. In fact, the downsize to Adelaide Cottage means there's no room for their live-in nanny who has been a staple in the Cambridges' lives for eight years.

For those not in the know, Spanish-born Maria Borrallo has worked – and lived – with the Cambridge family since 2014, when Prince George (who's now nine) was just eight month old. Being a live-in nanny means Borrallo has been on-hand 24/7 during her time with the royals, something which will soon change as she'll be living elsewhere along with other support staff, such as the Cambridge's housekeeper and chef.

The aim of the move is to provide nine-year-old Prince George, seven-year-old Princess Charlotte and four-year-old Prince Louis with as 'normal' a childhood as possible. Whilst Kensington Palace has been the perfect home thus far, the family is very much under the microscope as it borders a busy high street and the popular Kensington Palace Gardens.

Adelaide Cottage, however, is a Grade II-listed property nestled in the heart of the Crown Estate’s Home Park. With plenty of private land surrounding the property, the Cambridge children will be free to play in the grounds away from public view.

"I was charmed with it," a childhood friend of the Queen once wrote about Adelaide Cottage. "It typically represents that idea of a little world within a world of its own, which is so characteristic of Windsor Castle and its surroundings."

As well as being closer to the Queen, the Cambridges' new home is just a short drive away from the home of Kate Middleton's parents. Their move to Adelaide Cottage will also mean a shorter commute in the morning for the kids, as they've been enrolled in a nearby Berkshire prep school. Previously, the family endured a busy commute across London to Prince George and Princess Charlotte's former school, Thomas’s Battersea.
