Aussies are being warned of the do's and don'ts of campground etiquette ahead of summer after one camper was reeling from an "inconsiderate" act that interfered with his trip last week.

After putting up his tent and walking through the "huge" campground, which he said takes about 45 minutes, the camper returned to find a new addition to his set-up — very close neighbours.

"Can you hear that?" he complained online while panning around the campground. "If you go f**king camping and someone is set up and you park there, and I can clearly hear your conversation, you're too f**king close."

He pointed out other campers and their set-ups in the distance, indicating others had got the memo about personal privacy while the nearby campers had not. He also made a jab about their age, suggesting their generation isn't as considerate as others.

"Guess which generation? The inconsiderate one," he said, later confirming he was referring to elderly, 'grey nomads' who he accused of "lacking respect" when it comes to campsite etiquette.

A simple decision by the other campers would have avoided tension in this situation, Peter Chapman, CMO of Reflections Holidays, told Yahoo News.

"Take a moment to look around before you set up. Is there a spot that gives everyone a bit of breathing room?" he said. "A little thoughtfulness on how you might impact someone else's holiday can make a big difference, and it is important to always be mindful of personal privacy."

The appeal of camping is to be out in nature and immersed in a more "peaceful" environment, so preserving this as much as possible for yourself and for others is crucial.

"If setting up near others is unavoidable, keep noise to a minimum and respect their space," Peter said.

There is one simple trick to use to ensure you avoid being that annoying camper at the campground.

"The cheat code is simple: treat the campsite like you’re a guest in someone else's house," Peter said. This means considering "small but important details" is the key, like keeping noise at a reasonable level, cleaning up after yourself and being mindful of shared spaces, and "leaving no trace" of your visit.

"A little mindfulness can go a long way in making sure you're not "that camper" who disturbs and ruins it for everyone else," he said.
