Canterbury death adds to Xmas road toll

A man injured in a crash in Christchurch on Tuesday has died, taking the number of people killed on the roads in the official holiday period to 13.

Jack Munro, 23, died in hospital on Wednesday afternoon after being involved in an accident involving two cars and a parked car on Russley Road late at night on January 2.

One other person received moderate injuries in the crash.

Because Mr Munro was injured in a crash occurring during the official holiday period, his death now takes the holiday road toll to 13.

The Christmas-New Year road toll period started on the afternoon of December 22 and ended at 6am on Wednesday.

This holidays fewer people died on the roads than last year's holiday period when 19 people were killed.
