Carrie Bickmore gets fired up over tampon tax

The Project host Carrie Bickmore got fired up during an interview with the opposition health spokesperson, Catherine King, on Tuesday’s show.

The pair were discussing the elimination of the GST tax on tampons and sanitary pads.

In a bid to remove the tampon tax by the Greens yesterday, the party was unfortunately blocked by the Government and the Labor party.

Carrie came out with guns blazing from the get-go in the interview asking Ms King: “I can only assume you and your colleagues think tampons and pads are luxuries?”

The politician denied the host’s assumptions replying: “Not at all. We want to see the GST removed from tampons and sanitary pads.”

She also claimed in was a political stunt from the Greens and it was “not the way to go about it”.

Ms King continued: “We have to get rid of this tax. I am happy to lead the charge on that but we have to do it properly.”

The host was clearly not happy with her response and continued to grill the politician.

Carrie said: “Get it done, it is 2017! It seems ridiculous that we are having this conversation. Today I was ready incontinence pads are GST-free but sanitary pads aren’t. Is it the size or what they are collecting, how, they are the same product?”

Ms King did agree with the host saying the tax was “crazy” but it was a simple fix due to states and territories relying on that GST for hospital funding and it will be a “challenge” to find a subsidy.

The 36-year-old still didn’t back down saying it was like a this or that situation and a slight deterrent for people to stop campaigning for the tampon tax to be eliminated for fears of hospital funding decreasing.

She said: “It feels like that is a shame that is where the conversation ends.”

You tell 'em, Carrie!
