Have you put your central heating on yet? Yahoo readers have their say

Yahoo UK's poll of the week lets you vote and indicate your strength of feeling on one of the week's hot topics. After the poll closes, we'll publish and analyse the results each Friday, giving readers the chance to see how polarising a topic has become and if their view chimes with other Yahoo UK readers.

Temperatures across the UK nosedived this week to below 0C, giving Brits our "first taste of winter", according to the Met Office.

Snow also fell in many parts of the country, becoming particularly heavy in Scotland and the north of England. The Met Office issued yellow snow and ice warnings that have continued since early this week, and will stay in place over the weekend for some areas as Storm Bert makes an appearance.

The bitterly cold temperatures will have forced some of us to turn the central heating on, as it's important to do so particularly if you have infants, young children or elderly people in the home.

However, some people may have resisted turning their heating on due to rising energy bills. The energy regulator Ofgem announced today that energy and gas bills will go up from January by over 1%, pushing the average bill to £1,739 per year.

Yahoo News UK asked our readers whether they've put their central heating on yet, here are the results:

A whopping 91% of voters said they had put their central heating on already, with just a hardy 9% saying they were resisting the urge to do the same.

This poll received 3,700 votes with the most common vote being 21C, indicating many readers were preferred their homes at this temperature.

This week, we included one more poll and asked our readers a third question which was: 'Out of 10, how satisfied are you with your home's insulation?'

Of the 2,735 votes this received, it revealed that Yahoo News UK readers weren't particularly swayed either way with their home's insulation, receiving an average rating of 5.9.
