Remember Chicago? Of course you do. Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones in one of the greatest movie musical adaptions ever! They slayed, they killed, they danced, they sang — it was a good time.

Well, apparently, Charlize Theron was supposed to play the role of Roxie Hart, aka Renée Zellweger’s part.

We think Zellweger was perfect in the role, but now we’re totally imagining this alternate universe where Charlize sang and danced in the ’20s inspired musical.

“The director kicked me off it. I was really bummed about it. And I think because I had it, I was like, ‘Ah…I’m gonna make this movie’ and I got kicked off it,” Theron told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show.

Apparently, someone other than Rob Marshall was attached to direct and they hand-picked Theron for the role. That original director was fired, Marshall was hired, and then Marshall fired Theron as well.

“Well, there was another director attached and he brought me on. And then that director got fired and this new director got brought on and he didn’t want to make the movie with me,” she added.

Bummer. We can totally see her in that role.

Remember when she danced at the Oscars with Channing Tatum and it was friggin’ beautiful?

Well, whatever happens in life is meant to happen, and turns out Zellweger was meant to kick major musical ass in the role of Roxie Hart.

We’ll just have to keep waiting for Charlize’s big-screen musical debut!
