Chrissy Teigen shares the hilarious reason why Joe Biden unfollowed her
There's was a union short but oh so very sweet... Chrissy Teigen and President Joe Biden, we mean. The model, presenter and cookbook extraordinaire, who was always very anti-Donald Trump (Biden's predecessor) was delighted when the change of office came into to play. So much so, that she boldly tweeted the official President of the United States (@POTUS) Twitter account asking if she could get a follow back. Quite the contrast to her social interactions with Trump, who blocked her before he was banned from the site.
Much to Chrissy's surprise, whoever it is in charge of the account agreed – making Chrissy one of just thirteen people to make Biden's 'following' list (quite the achievement, I'm sure we can all agree). However, the pair have now parted ways – there's no bad blood, fear not – and Chrissy has shared the hilarious reason why and "break up story" on her Instagram.
It seems that after receiving the much-coveted follow back on 21 January, Chrissy felt the pressure of knowing the literal President would be aware of pretty much everything she said (fair), so she tweeted Biden asking if, err, actually, he wouldn't mind unfollowing her after all... Oh.
"I have tweeted a handful of times since my treasured @POTUS following," she wrote. "In order for me to flourish as me, I must ask you to please lord unfollow me. I love you!!! It’s not you it’s me!!!!"
Chrissy then shared a screengrab of her tweet, along with two screenshots of Biden's Twitter account – the first showing 'Follows You' and the second where that has disappeared. Why do we feel genuinely a bit sad about this though? Captioning the series, Chrissy said: "a breakup story 😭 need some Ben and Jerry’s". And tbh, same?
It totally makes sense though, seeing as Chrissy is famed for being extremely candid on social media – posting about everything from her light-hearted love of Animal Crossing, to losing a tooth at Biden's inauguration ceremony and snaps of her lips swelling up after an unexpected allergic reaction to an orange. Possibly all things you wouldn't want one of the most powerful people in the world knowing about.
Chrissy does still follow Biden, so at least there's perhaps hope for a reunion one day (and it won't be awkward next time they attend an event together – it seems like she and John are pretty in there with him and Vice President Kamala Harris).
We look forward to Chrissy's Twitter account now resuming normal service. 🙏🏼
