A Cinderella Story star dies after cancer battle

Fans of A Cinderella Story have woken up to some sad news this morning after it was announced that actress Mary Pat Gleason passed away aged just 70 years old.

The character actress is best known for the 2004 film starring Hilary Duff in which she starred as waitress Eleanor who worked alongside Duff’s character at a diner.

Mary Pat shared scenes with both Duff and Regina King, who played the store manager.

A supporting star, Mary Pat starred in many high profile projects across her career including parts in The Crucible, Suddenly 30 and Sex and the City.

She was also known for her roles on Will and Grace and in CANDIDE.

She most recently starred in the sitcom Mom and boasted over 174 film and TV credits on IMDB.

Ms. Gleason passed away on June 2 at 70 years old after a cancer battle.

The actresses manager confirmed the news to Variety.

“She was a fighter to the end,” he said of her battle with the illness.

Many were alerted to the sad news via a post to her Facebook page by actor and author Ron Fassler who was a close friend and described Mary in a touching tribute.

“So caring, so funny, and so delicious to be around, that I find it hard to imagine a world without her shining presence and smiling face,” he wrote.

The obituary attracted hundreds of comments from fans and co-stars who remembered Mary Pat as a funny and kind woman and talented character actress.
