Coles Little Treehouse books on eBay for $250

Coles has once again sent shoppers into a frenzy with the release of yet another instalment in their ‘Little Shop’ series, the Little Treehouse books.

While some customers have taken issue with the stories — the ‘graphic images’ and plotlines allegedly ‘promote violence’ — that hasn’t stopped others from rushing to get their hands on a complete set of the tiny titles.

How far would you go to collect all 24 of the books by Aussie author Andy Griffiths and illustrator Terry Denton, as well as the three ‘rare’ and one ‘super rare’ versions?

If you’re willing to part with a couple of hundred bucks over on eBay, an (almost) full set of brand new Little Treehouse books — plus the $5 collector’s case — could be yours.

One seller has listed the 24 ‘standard’ titles along with three ‘rare’ ones (the ‘super rare’ 12th title doesn’t seem to be included) with an asking price of a cool $250.

Another seller is asking $220 for their complete collection with collector’s case however none of the four prized titles are included.

If you just need a few books to complete your little library, you can snap up individual titles for $24 each from another eBay user.

Over on Facebook Marketplace, prices are a little easier on the wallet with unopened Little Treehouse books on sale for $3 each or $84 for all 28.

Those who don’t have that amount of cash to splash can get one book with every $30 spent in one transaction in-store, as per previous Little Shop promotions.

Adding to the excitement — or frustration, in some cases — is Coles’ ‘lucky dip’ system which means shoppers won’t know which story they’ve received until they tear open the generic packaging.

It also means shoppers could end up getting multiples of the same title — to remedy this, the supermarket suggests swapping books with others, bearing in mind coronavirus restrictions.

When the Little Treehouse books launched last week, Coles was clearly keen to turn a new leaf following earlier backlash over their plastic Little Shop collectables which were widely criticised for adding to plastic pollution and waste.

The supermarket said the book series is environmentally friendly, with the paper and packaging used to produce the books being FSC responsibly sourced which can be recycled at home like any paper product.
