Coles customers will receive a $10 discount on their next shop, but not everyone will have access.

Flybuys members will receive the instant $10 discount when they checkout in store once they have received 2,000 Flybuys points.

But, not everyone will receive the discount because it’s only being trialled in selected stores and is not yet available nationally.

“We are always looking for ways to make it easier for our customers to receive great value when they shop with us,” a Coles spokesperson told Yahoo Finance.

“Customers who link their Flybuys account to the Coles app can see personalised Coles offers with the click of a button, with offers including money off their shop, bonus Flybuys points on specific products or entire categories and even free products.

“We are currently trialling instant $10 for Flybuys members in selected Coles stores, allowing them to redeem 2,000 Flybuys points for instant money off their shop when they spend $10 or more in one transaction. This reward is just one of the many ways we’re continuing to add value to our customers’ lives.”

Supermarkets hit with backlash over profits

This comes after both Coles and Woolworths faced some customer backlash after reporting massive profits, as millions of Aussies struggle with the rising cost of living.

Coles announced a $1.09 billion net profit for the 12 months to June 2023, up 4.8 per cent on last financial year.

Similarly, Woolworths posted a net profit of $1.62 billion for the financial year, up 4.6 per cent.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), who recently launched an inquiry into price gouging by big business, said hundreds of customers had accused the supermarkets of price-gouging tactics.

ACTU assistant secretary Joseph Mitchell said supermarkets were the most-complained-about industry to the ACTU’s call for information regarding price gouging.
