Colin Baker has backed Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor Who.

As revealed yesterday, Jodie will take her place in history as the first ever female Doctor to bag her own Tardis and the majority of fans couldn't be more thrilled.

Thankfully, this sentiment is also shared by Doctors past, as former Who star Colin Baker has given Whittaker's casting his approval in a pretty woke article on The Guardian.

Not that his approval was needed, but still. Go, Colin!

"Whenever I have been interviewed about Doctor Who, the question has come up about the possibility of a female Doctor," he said.

"I have never been able to think of any logical reason why an alien being capable of regenerating in extremis would necessarily retain all or indeed any of the characteristics of his (or her) pre-renewal self."

"The world we live in has a history of male domination, of stereotyping, of resistance to change, of playing it safe."

"Doctor Who has never been about that. The Doctor in all his incarnations has always been a passionate defender of justice, equality, fairness and resisted those who seek to dominate or destroy," Baker added.

"It is certainly true that there are fewer striking role models for young females in our society – and on television and film – and fewer realistic opportunities to see paths through to the kind of success to which they have every right to aspire."

Jodie will take over from current Doctor Peter Capaldi when he bows out of the role during this year's Christmas special.

He will be joined by showrunner Stephen Moffat, who is also handing over his role to Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall.

We love the Chibnall, don't get us wrong, but a woman showrunner would be pretty nice too.

Until then...

Doctor Who returns December 25 on BBC One.
