SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday (9 September) confirmed 457 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, taking the country's total case count to 70,039.

Of them, 450 are local cases and seven are imported cases.

Amongst the local cases are 108 seniors who are above 60 years. The imported cases have been placed on StayHome Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore. Of these, three were detected upon arrival in Singapore, while four developed the illness during SHN or isolation.

MOH listed 11 active large clusters with new cases. Among them are the 14 new cases at the Sembcorp Marine Tuas Boulevard Yard cluster (total 32), nine new cases at Hu Lee Impex (total 22), and eight new cases at the Bugis Junction cluster (total 305).

A 62 year-old Singaporean man died of complications due to COVID-19 infection on Monday. The man – the 57th fatality from the infection in the pandemic – had been conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for an unrelated medical condition on 20 July and tested positive for COVID-19 infection on 21 July.

"He had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and had a history of cancer and bronchiectasis," MOH said.

As of Thursday, 664 COVID-19 cases are currently warded in hospital. There are currently 26 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and seven in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Of those who have fallen very ill, 28 are seniors above 60 years.

Over the last 28 days, the percentage of unvaccinated who became severely ill or died is 5.2 per cent, while that for the fully vaccinated is 0.8 per cent.

As of Wednesday, 81 per cent of the population has completed their full regimen or received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 83 per cent has received at least one dose.

As of Wednesday, about 8.82 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme. Some 4.54 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine, with some 4.4 million having completed the full vaccination regimen.

Separately, 175,027 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of Wednesday, covering 86,379 individuals.
