Cricketer reveals 'darkest' moments on field after running out Aussie legend

Running out your partner is one of the worst feelings in cricket.

Running out an Australian batting legend in his last game?

Beyond mortifying.

That feeling was a reality for Jordan Silk, who early in his career managed to run out Ricky Ponting in his final game for Tasmania.

Making matters worse, Ponting was five runs shy of a century.

Silk caught the attention of several fellow crickets on Twitter after fans badgered him to relive the ignominious moment.

“I thought he took it pretty well,” Silk joked.

When asked how he felt after the run-out though, Silk revealed it was perhaps a bit less funny at the time.

Ponting was fined $250 after tossing his bat in the air in frustration.

“You don’t want to know,” Silk said.

“Comfortably the darkest 2-3 minutes I’ve had on the field.”

The tale attracted the attention of fellow cricketers Ed Cowan, Ben Dunk and Daniel Hughes, all of whom took varying levels of delight in Silk’s misfortune.
