Good news for anyone who devoured season three of Netflix's The Crown in about two days flat: season four filming is well underway, and we've got our hands on a sneak peek. The fourth series of the royal drama is the one where Princess Diana is introduced, and casting execs have absolutely nailed their choice of actor if these pictures are anything to go by. Because Emma Corrin, who plays the late Diana in the show, looks the absolute double of her in these shots.

In the pictures, Corrin can be seen wearing a purple smock dress as she films scenes set over Easter 1984, when Princess Diana was pregnant with second child Prince Harry. In one shot, the actress is holding her character's firstborn Prince William - played by an as-yet unnamed, blonde-haired toddler - and posing for a photograph taken by Josh O'Connor in the role of Prince Charles.

And while the occasion itself wasn't designed to be an exact match, the images emerging from the set of The Crown are very similar indeed to some snaps of the real life Princess Diana, taken in July 1982.

On this day, Diana attended a service of commemoration at St Paul's Cathedral for the Falklands War, and wore a purple dress very similar to the one seen on actress Emma Corrin almost 40 years later.

Although she looks pregnant in the photograph, Diana was actually in the immediate aftermath of birth at the time. She had delivered Prince William just four weeks previously, and so was still wearing maternity clothes to accommodate her existing bump.

Pretty similar, hey?

The Crown is known for its clever casting and attention to detail when it comes to outfits and scene sets, ensuring as much similarity to real life as possible. In season three of the series - the first in which we see Olivia Colman assume the role of Queen Elizabeth - there were plenty of visible parallels between the drama and the real life occasions.

Take a look at some of them here:

Sadly, it's been confirmed that the fifth series of The Crown will be the last. In a post on Twitter from the official Netflix account, the show's makers confirmed that Imelda Staunton, of Harry Potter and Nanny McPhee fame, would be the last person to take on the part of the Queen. The series will bring The Crown into the 21st century, likely covering the death of Princess Diana in 1997, as well as both Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother in 2002.

But let's focus on the positives: we still have two whole series of the show to look forward to in the next couple of years.
