Curtis Stone has revealed his favourite way to impress guests with a cooking hack that won't break the bank this Christmas. Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, the celebrity chef shared his surprisingly simple Christmas dessert hack, using a $7.50 item from Coles.

"Oh, there's so many," Curtis tells us when we quizzed him on his favourite Christmas hacks. "We have beautiful ingredients. I actually used to do this in a restaurant in London years ago – and we take little Parisian scoops of ice cream, dip them in chocolate and then let them sort of semi-melt. So, when you eat it, it's kind of almost melted like a semifreddo.

"So, I did that this year – we've got these beautiful Christmas flavoured ice creams, so I did it with some of our ice creams."

The ice creams are available in Burnt Butter Pecan & Caramel and Fig Rum & Mascarpone, and they honestly look pretty good with some simple toppings, as shown below:

Speaking about his Christmas lunch, Curtis tells us, "I'm kind of traditional when it comes to Christmas, I love the ham in the middle of the table. I don't normally gravitate towards ham, but we do have some beautiful hams.

"We have a single, a double and a triple smoked this year, so one for every budget and one for every level of smokiness. If you like it really smoky, of course, you go for the triple smoked and that with a beautiful glaze, I think is always really nice."

Curtis adds that with the cost of living crisis, you want to be thinking about how you can use your leftovers after Christmas, to ensure you're getting the most bang for your buck.

"You know, when you grow up in restaurants, you have to utilise everything," he says. "And right now, we're all talking about the cost of living, and you know, throwing stuff in the garbage is absolutely not the answer, right? So, really figuring out what you're buying and then two or three uses for it.

"Like the ham, for instance, you can turn it into friend rice, you can turn it into salad, into a panani, you can put it into an omelette. There's so many great uses for it. So thinking about that before you actually do your shopping, I think, is clever."
