Daria Gavrilova melts down in furious Fed Cup tantrum

Australia may have won their Fed Cup clash with the USA, but Daria Gavrilova was far from happy with her performance.

Ashleigh Barty and Priscilla Hon combined for a tense doubles victory to seal the world group tie in Asheville, North Carolina on Sunday.

The tie went to the doubles after Danielle Collins fought back to beat Gavrilova in the fourth rubber.

Collins hit back with a dogged 6-1 3-6 6-2 win that left Gavrilova covering her face in anger as she made her way to the net.

Dasha then smashed her racquet angrily as she was receiving a pep-talk from Rennae Stubbs and Alicia Molik court-side.

Her meltdown resulted in Molik picking Hon to replace Gavrilova for the doubles decider.

And the move worked a trick as Barty and Hon beat Nicole Melichar and Collins 6-4 7-5 to clinch the tie and set up a semi-final clash with Belarus in April.

It is the first time since 2014 Australia have made the semi-finals.

The location will be decided by a coin toss as Australia and Belarus are yet to play each other in the Fed Cup.

“We’ve had a hell of a weekend and there’s absolutely nothing better than coming out and playing a live tie for your country,” Barty, who celebrated with her teammates, said.

Australia and the US started Sunday tied at 1-1.

Barty fired the Australians back into the lead when when she defeated Madison Keys, America’s top-ranked player in their squad, 6-4 6-1.

The other semi-final will be France against Romania.
