David Ojabo, who tore Achilles at a pro day workout, drafted in 2nd round by Ravens
Michigan edge defender David Ojabo had to wait a while to be drafted due to a torn Achilles he suffered at his pro day workout.
Thankfully for him, the wait wasn't too long.
The Baltimore Ravens ignored Ojabo's serious injury and took him with the 45th overall pick in the second round of the draft. When ESPN showed Ojabo with family and friends as the pick was made, he was obviously happy to be drafted by Baltimore. He had to be glad his draft slide didn't last too long.
Ojabo, considered to be a top-20 prospect before his injury, tore his Achilles at his pro day workout in March. It drew some attention when he was laying on the ground in pain, likely worried about what would come next in his football career, and nobody came over to at least console him for many moments.
I know the #NFL is a cold business but watching the lack of concern or empathy from the scouts, coaches and observers following David Ojabo’s injury bugs me. Perhaps someone should’ve checked on him instead of grabbing the ball and moving to the next drill. Just a thought.. pic.twitter.com/28aR88zJfk

For a few reasons Ojabo was a sympathetic figure coming into the draft. Clearly he got a good recommendation from Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. The Ravens are coached by Jim's brother John Harbaugh, and Ojabo also reunites with Mike MacDonald, who is Baltimore's new defensive coordinator after serving the same role for the Wolverines last season.
The Ravens are gambling a bit on Ojabo getting healthy and playing like he did at Michigan, where he was an athletic and productive pass rusher. Achilles injuries are generally pretty tough to come back from, especially for athletes who depend on their explosiveness.
They might not get much out of Ojabo this season, but they were willing to wait. For Ojabo, going in the second round wasn't what he figured going into the offseason, but it had to be a relief.
