Actor Dax Shepard has revealed that he was fired from Will & Grace after being offered a guest role on the American sitcom.

Shepard shared the surprising news during Monday's (December 17) edition of his Armchair Expert podcast, which featured Will & Grace star Sean Hayes, who plays Jack McFarland.

During the two-hour episode, the pair spoke at length about the hit NBC series and Shepard recalled to Hayes: "I was fired from your show."

Shepard was initially tapped for a guest spot on the show back in 2017, but the broadcaster never publicly revealed any details about the role.

"It was the only firing experience of my life," Shepard added. "I'm fine with it now. It was an interesting feeling to get fired. The only thing I cared about is that you and I were involved."

He continued: "Had it been any other thing with a bunch of strangers, I would have been like, 'Oh, whatever. I was at a table read for 45 minutes and then I got fired'."

In response to Shepard's admission, Hayes admitted that he had "almost blocked" out the table read and Dax's casting because the situation was so "horrible".

"Of course I remember it, but I almost blocked it out, because it was horrible that it happened," he said.

Shepard added: "The only thing is there was no anonymity to it for me. I knew many of the people at that table read. I think maybe that was the only element of it that I was like, 'Well, that's kind of embarrassing. These are people that I know - and then, I got canned'."

"I can't believe they fired you," Sean replied. "I cannot believe they fired you."

Still, Shepard also added that he suspected the table read didn't go that well, and he shared that he was ultimately thankful that he wasn't offered the role, revealing that he would have missed his daughter’s pre-school graduation for a live taping.

"This all worked out exactly as it should," he optimistically told Hayes.

Will & Grace airs on NBC in the US and on Channel 5 and the Paramount Network in the UK.
