Deloitte's Tamika Tremaglio selected as next NBPA executive director

Tamika Tremaglio was named the executive director of the NBPA on Wednesday, succeeding Michele Roberts, who will retire at the end of the year.

Tremaglio, an NBPA consultant since 2012, served as the greater Washington managing principal at Deloitte since 2017. She is retiring from that role to serve as the NBPA executive director. According to Deloitte, she was “responsible for overseeing more than 10,000 audit, tax, advisory and consulting professionals in the region.”

“Tamika has been by our side for many years, advising us on the best practices and policies needed for our organization to operate more like a successful business,” NBPA president C.J. McCollum said in a release. “Given Michele’s strong leadership and guidance that have brought us to where we are today, we were looking for a next-generation leader, who has the skills, vision, and credibility to pick up where Michele will leave off and to elevate our Union to even greater heights. Tamika’s well-rounded experience in collective bargaining, staff management, revenue creation, wealth preservation and culture building, undoubtedly will put our players in the best position to succeed.”

The Portland Trail Blazers’ McCollum was elected to a four-year team as NBPA president in August after previously serving as a vice president.

Roberts, who had been the executive director since 2014, told Yahoo Sports’ Vincent Goodwill in July that the players were actively looking for her successor and that she did not anticipate that she would serve for the entire 2021-22 season.

“I would probably have been gone after the pandemic, I would have been gone, but it's a pandemic,” Roberts told Yahoo Sports. “When I took this job, I made a promise. I'm gonna be 65 in September. … This is an important decision that the players have to make. ... I love these guys, and so I'm not going to just leave, but they are in earnest looking for a successor.”

The executive director of the players association is appointed by the player representatives and the executive committee made up of players. The executive director conducts the day-to-day operations of the union, including enforcing policies and managing the collective bargaining agreement between the NBPA and the league.

The current CBA expires after the 2023-24 season unless either the players or league opt out after the 2022-23 season.

The NBPA was established in 1954 as the union for current NBA players.
