Demi Lovato just debuted a new neck tattoo—and it's part of a larger theme she has been celebrating lately. Lovato posted a selfie to Instagram on September 2nd showing off her latest addition to her ink collection: a butterfly tattoo, which seemingly has a larger meaning than just looking pretty.

On August 7th, Lovato shared with her followers that she got a butterfly manicure. In her Instagram Stories, she posted a pic of the French manicure with butterfly decals with the text, "Guys I'm writing a song called butterfly rn," written on the image. So, this leads us to believe that her September 2nd caption is perhaps a lyric to the new track. Check it out:

"Dear little me, I’m sorry that it took so long but baby your [sic] free.." Lovato captioned the image of her new neck tattoo.

The ink itself is a black and gray butterfly on the side of her neck.

Though Lovato didn't tag the tattoo artist, she has an affinity for artists who have mastered the delicate black and gray designs—a la Winterstone; Alex Aureo, who commented, "Beautiful shot" on Lovato's recent pic; and Dr. Woo, who gave Lovato her first neck tattoo in December 2019.

It appears as though her "survivor" tattoo is inked on the other side of her neck—or it could be hiding under the neckline of her dress.

On the back of her neck, Lovato has a masterpiece by Aureo. Aureo designed the piece after sitting with Lovato and listening to her story. It's three white doves, which symbolize the Holy Trinity, carrying a fallen angel. The tattoo symbolizes Lovato's recent "spiritual awakening."

The butterfly tattoo is joining good company; that's for sure.

Though Lovato's new ink is enough to get excited about, the prospect of a new song about growing up, learning about oneself, and emerging from a cocoon as a beautiful butterfly is sending fans into a frenzy.

Butterflies have always been in, but Lovato has just turned the trend cool AF.
