Given that they're part of the most famous family in the world, meaning pretty much anything and everything about them is common knowledge, you'd think there'd be nothing left to learn about Prince William and Kate Middleton. But, a new day brings a new Wills and Kate fact, it seems, as we just discovered that the pair go by different names when they're in Scotland. Who knew!?

As it turns out, the weather isn't the only thing that changes when you cross the border into Scotland, as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's titles do, too. Whenever the pair visit Scotland – like they did earlier this month on a royal tour – they're known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn. As for why their name changes depending on their location, the royal duo can thank Her Majesty for that, as she bestowed several titles on them when they married back in 2011, including their Cambridge monikers (that we're all very familiar with) as well as the lesser known, Baron and Lady Carrickfergus.

But Prince William and Kate Middleton aren't the only royals who have too many titles to count. Whenever he takes a trip to Scotland, Prince Charles goes by The Duke of Rothesay, a title which belongs to the first in line to the British throne, meaning his son will one day inherit it as well. Some of Prince Charles' other titles include the Earl of Carrick, Baron of Renfrew, Lord of the Isles and Prince and Great Steward of Scotland – bit of a mouthful that last one, eh? Similarly, Prince Harry is known as the Earl of Dumbarton, a title which he received shortly before his 2018 wedding to Meghan Markle.

However, all this talk of titles could very well become a thing of the past, as Prince William and Kate Middleton have plans to strip back the use of them when they become head of the British Monarchy. "They want to be more approachable, less formal, less stuffy and break away with a lot of the tradition," a source told The Mirror of the pair's plans for the future. It comes after the couple's royal tour of the Caribbean (to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee) received mixed reviews.

"The general consensus was that the tour seemed out of date, out of touch, too formal and stuffy," the insider added. "So now it’s more 'Wills and Kate' instead of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge... 'Just call me Wills' type of thing."
