Diving world cup coming to Windsor in 2025
A major international diving competition is coming to Windsor next year, one that officials brings world-class competitors and tourism dollars to the city.
The 2025 World Aquatics Diving World Cup takes place from April 10 to 13, 2025, at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre.
A Montreal venue was originally slated to host the event, but Windsor "eagerly rose to the challenge" when there were concerns over whether it would be open. The city had previously been tapped to host the Canada Cup of Diving next year.
"With the support of all event partners, Windsor seized the opportunity to elevate the Canada Cup of Diving to World Cup status, solidifying its role as the host city for 2025," a press release for the event stated.
More than 15 nations will be competing in the events and spectators "will have the rare opportunity to witness performances by Olympic medallists, world champions, and rising stars who represent the future of international diving."
Mayor Drew Dilkens said the competition coming to Windsor is a "monumental achievement for the city."
"This competition attracts the world's top athletes to our city and the surrounding region, inspiring residents of all ages and fuelling economic growth while delivering great entertainment," he said in a media release.
Windsor still retains rights to host the Canada Cup of Diving in 2026.
