Donald Trump scares crying kids at Halloween

U.S President Donald Trump might have been the scariest Halloween monster these kids saw this year, frightening the children as they visited the White House press gallery on the weekend.

Awkwardly smiling as he shuffled a box of Hershey's Kisses around on his desk, the POTUS didn't seem to know how to talk to to his young guests.

Donald attempted a few conversational gambits before turning to one small guest to quiz her over whether she was crying.

"Do you know who they are?" he asked the clearly baffled children, pointing at the photographers surrounding them. "They're the 'friendly media.'"

Then, as one child wavered, "Are you crying?" Donald asked the little one. "Come here, sweetheart. You OK, honey?"

Looking at her, he said, "She's Japanese? Beautiful!"

"I'm going to be in Japan. In two weeks, I'll be in Japan," he said. "You know that? That's beautiful. These are beautiful, wonderful children."

Then, looking one little girl up and down, he encouraged her to take chocolate treats from the pile on the desk because "You have no weight problems, that's the good news."

And it only got stranger from there, with Donald going to ramble incoherently to the room.

"So how does the press treat you?" he said. "I bet you get treated better by the press than anybody in the world. Right. I think so. Anyway. Well congratulations folks. You did a good job. You did a good job. Here, you did a good job. I wouldn't say you did very well here, but really, beautiful children. How are you? How are you? I like that hair, wow.'

Donald has five children of his own – grown-up kids Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Tiffany Trump, Eric Trump, and his youngest son, Barron Trump, 11.

Next time, maybe he should stick to kid-approved subjects and just talk about Paw Patrol.
