Donald Trump wants to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” he revealed in a bonkers news conference Tuesday.

“We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring that covers a lot of territory,” he said. “The Gulf of America, what a beautiful name.”

The Gulf of Mexico, as it was named as far back as the 16th century by Spaniards, is a semi-enclosed sea in the southeastern corner of North America. Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida all have coastline with the body of water.

The announcement comes amid a very public rift between the president-elect and Mexico’s leadership, including its president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

Trump disparaged the top U.S. ally again on Tuesday.

“Mexico is really in trouble, a lot of trouble, very dangerous place,” he said, claiming the nation is controlled by drug cartels.”

The president-elect later added that Mexico “has to stop allowing millions of people to pour into our country.” Until then, he again threatened to place “substantial tariffs” on all goods from Mexico and Canada.

“The drugs that are coming through are at record numbers, record numbers,” Trump claimed, without citing evidence. “So we’re going to make up for that by putting tariffs on Mexico and Canada.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene indicated shortly after Trump’s news conference that she would introduce new legislation “ASAP” to make the name-change official.

“President Trump’s second term is off to a GREAT start,” she wrote on X. “I’ll be introducing legislation ASAP to officially change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to its rightful name, the Gulf of America!”

A source told the Washington Examiner that there is “tons of interest” from other lawmakers wanting to co-sponsor the bill.

Trump’s threats—and a laundry list of complaints, like sharing his outrage that the recently-deceased Jimmy Carter signed a treaty to relinquish the Panama Canal decades ago—came during a news conference that was initially called to share seemingly good news.

It was revealed that the Emirati Hussain Sajwani was investing $20 billion in foreign cash to build new data centers across the United States. Trump gave himself a pat on the back for securing the investment, praised Sajwani, and stepped aside to allow him to speak at the podium briefly.

After that, however, Trump began ranting about his gripes. That began with him complaining that Joe Biden was promising a “smooth transfer of power” while taking actions that he declared were the opposite of that—like issuing a permanent ban on offshore oil drilling for 625 million acres this week.

Trump called his soon-to-be predecessor “sneaky” and suggested that Biden had prevented the “whole ocean” from being drilled.

“It’s like the whole ocean,” Trump said. “Take an acre, you know, an acre, you have a house on a half an acre, on a quarter of an acre, or an acre. If you have an acre, you have a big deal. Now you multiply that by 625 million acres. It’s like—feels like the whole ocean.”

Still, Trump promised to get around Biden’s last-second gotcha.

“President Biden’s actions yesterday on offshore drilling—banning offshore drilling—will not stand,” he said. “I will reverse it immediately. It will be done immediately. And we will drill, baby drill.
