Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say one driver was killed and the other airlifted to hospital after a head-on crash near the Ontario-Quebec border Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to County Road 17 in East Hawkesbury around 4 p.m., according to an OPP news release on Wednesday.

Police said the driver who died in hospital was a 63-year-old man from the Outaouais municipality of Saint-Émile-de-Suffolk. They did not release his name.

The other driver is a woman in her 30s from Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Que., just across the Ottawa River from Hawkesbury, police said. She was seriously injured and police said they expected her to survive.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, police said. It happened about 90 kilometres east of Ottawa and 15 kilometres west of the Quebec border.
