Driver's 'deliberate' act to cyclist caught on camera

Police said on Monday afternoon a 40-year-old woman has been arrested and is assisting with enquiries.

Shocking video has emerged showing a Melbourne cyclist being targeted by a motorist who appears to deliberately swerve and hit the man on his bike last week.

Footage captured by another car shows a white vehicle approaching the 59-year-old Pakenham man before knocking him to the ground, dragging the bicycle 100 metres before driving off along Douglas Street at Noble Park, in southeast Melbourne.

Victoria Police say the car, a white 2008-2017 Mitsubishi Lancer, came to a stop and allowed the bicycle to pass before accelerating towards the rider, mounting the curb, and deliberately hitting the cyclist. The incident occurred on April 13 at around 6.40am.

"The victim fell off his bicycle and landed on the road as the car continued on, dragging the bike for over 100 metres," police said in a statement. The 59-year-old cyclist suffered grazes and bruises and was taken to hospital for treatment.
