Drone shows destruction from Greek storm

Greek sheep farmers waded through the murky, chest-high waters of what looked like a lake on Saturday (September 19)

But it was in fact, the submerged central city of Karditsa, left battered by Storm "Ianos".

At least two people have died after the Medicane, or Mediterranean hurricane, pounded central Greece, leaving streets and homes virtually unrecognisable .

The storm uprooted trees and caused power cuts on the Ionian islands and the western Peloponnese on Friday (September 18), before moving further inland, hitting the cities of Karditsa, Farsala and their surrounding areas the hardest.

The body of an elderly woman was discovered in a flooded house near Farsala, according to fire brigade officials.

Authorities were still searching for two more people who had been reported missing.

Later, authorities said a 63-year-old man was found dead near a hospital in Karditsa.

It was not immediately clear whether he was one of the two reported missing.

Also on Saturday, the storm had reached the greater Athens region, Attica, with no immediate damage reported.
