The Duchess of Sussex might be heading on a trip without her husband in a bid to catch up with old friends and family in her home country. Meghan – who has not been back to the United States since just before she got married – is said to be planning a solo trip to New York and Los Angeles this year.

According to US Weekly, Meghan is embarking on "a personal, unofficial trip to see friends and family". The source also told the magazine that the duchess wanted to take the trip "before she becomes a mum".

"Expect to hear the pitter-patter of a little prince or princess in 2019," the source said.

The news has not been confirmed by Kensington Palace – and is likely ever to be, as the holiday would be in a personal, not official capacity.

Details of who Meghan will be visiting are also likely to be kept private, although it is expected that she would see her mother, Doria Ragland, who resides in Los Angeles.

It is also possible that the duchess will arrange a visit to see her father, Thomas Markle, at some point during the trip. However, according to an interview he gave recently, the two have not spoken since her wedding.

As well as this unofficial holiday to the States, Meghan will likely embark on a number of other overseas trips this year in an official capacity as a member of the royal family. Having just returned from a tour of Ireland, it has been confirmed that the duchess will join her husband Harry on a tour of Australia and New Zealand this October as they attend the Invictus Games.
