Dutch police disperse people from streets after Amsterdam tram set on fire

Tensions have escalated in Amsterdam amid violent clashes following last week's football match between Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ajax Amsterdam. Police dispersed crowds after a tram was set on fire, allegedly by people armed with sticks and firecrackers.

Clashes last week saw youths targeting Israeli fans, with multiple arrests made. The unrest follows rising antisemitic incidents across Europe, linked to the Gaza conflict. In response, Amsterdam’s mayor banned all demonstrations and declared parts of the city risk zones, allowing police to conduct random checks.
