Dwyane Wade on Lebron James: He could play past age 40

NBA great LeBron James, 35, may not play pro sports as long as the equally as ageless Tom Brady, but don’t think the King is ready to hang up his Nike’s anytime soon.

James confidant Dwyane Wade tells Yahoo Finance his friend may play another four years in the NBA.

“[LeBron is] still top of his game. He has got a couple years where he ain't got to be at the top of his game but still be good enough. I get another four years,” Wade, 37, said in a wide-ranging interview discussing his upcoming ESPN documentary “Life Unexpected.”

The now retired D-Wade isn’t pulling that projection out of thin air to get headlines, he and James are very close friends. That bond between the two was solidified in the summer of 2010, when James and Chris Bosh joined Wade on the Miami Heat. The trio of superstars powered the Miami Heat to four straight NBA Finals and two championships.

James left the Miami Heat in 2014 to rejoin his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers. He has since moved into his second season as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Even at 35, the workout fanatic James shows no signs of slowing down. James is averaging an impressive 25.2 points per game and 35 minutes a game, both right around his career averages.

James and Anthony Davis have powered the Lakers to a Western conference best record of 41-12 after a tough first season for James in L.A.

Both Wade and James may be sharing the bench again in retirement, this time as spectators. Wade’s son Zaire and James’ son Bronny play on the same high school team at Sierra Canyon. Both are viewed by NBA insiders as potential NBA players.

Wade’s documentary debuts on Feb. 23.
