Ed Sheeran covers Christmas classic Fairytale Of New York

Fans have gone crazy for Ed Sheeran's cover of the Christmas classic, Fairytale Of New York.

The singer performed the much-loved festive tune whilst appearing on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge with British singer, Anne-Marie, and since then social media has exploded with love for the new version.

Taking to Twitter, listeners said they "couldn't get enough" of the track while others said the duet was just what they needed to get them in the holiday spirit.

Ed had admitted before the performance that he was nervous about singing the beloved Christmas tune, telling the radio station he was worried about fan reactions.

"I feel like I'm going to get murdered for doing this cover," he said. "It's a cover that you shouldn't really touch... BUT it's Christmas!"

The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s 1988 track Fairytale Of New York is widely considered to be one of the most loved Christmas songs because unlike other happy jingles to celebrate the silly season, this song touches on the disappointment and overindulgence of the holiday.

Luckily it seems red head Ed has totally nailed it.
