England's World Cup winning cricketers lead the way for sport in the Queen’s New Year Honours list with four players and coach Trevor Baylis all being recognised.
Following the dramatic tournament triumph in the summer, captain Eion Morgan becomes a CBE, hero of the final Ben Stokes is made OBE as does Bayliss, while Jos Buttler and Test captain Joe Root become MBEs.
“I’m very proud to have been awarded a CBE” beamed Morgan having become the first ever England captain to lift the trophy. “Winning the World Cup has been a dream come true and the honours and awards that have come since that day at Lord’s really mean a lot to everyone connected with the team.”
Stokes, named mana of the match in the sensational Super Over victory against New Zealand in the final at Lord’s, paid tribute to his teammates.
“As everybody has said, it’s a team effort to get these awards and we’ll be going to collect them on behalf of the team.”
ECB chairman Colin Graves also becomes a CBE.
