Even The X-Files star might not be a fan of that twist

From Digital Spy

Warning: Spoilers for the season 11 finale of The X-Files will follow.

Gillian Anderson has officially left The X-Files building, and it looks like she agrees with you about her bonkers exit story.

The actress tweeted "Oh boy oh boy do I ever hear you" alongside a gif of a visibly unimpressed and tired looking Agent Scully.

Fans of the science-fiction show have been very vocal about their dislike of the latest twists, and even if you don't agree, we think you can see why.

The latest episode of The X-Files, which aired earlier this week, revealed that it was the Cigarette Smoking Man, and not Mulder, who was the father of William. Then, CSM shot William 'dead' while pretending to be Mulder, before the real Mulder shot CSM multiple times, and then William reveals he's totally fine.

Oh, and Scully is pregnant.

The show's creator, Chris Carter, has defended the twist (as he would), saying: "People will either love me or hate me. I think they'll have reasons for both.

"It certainly is one of the most interesting cliffhangers that the show has ever had."

It certainly was that, Chris. It certainly was that.

The X-Files airs on Fox in the US and on Channel 5 in the UK.
