Ex-RNC Chair Exposes The Key Trump Error That Could Doom His Campaign
Former Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele said Donald Trump has hit his ceiling.
“He thinks all he needs are his base voters to win this thing,” Steele said to MSNBC’s Ali Velshi on Sunday. “Let him keep thinking that.”
Rather than try to appeal to more voters, the former president has instead “brought the crazy back in” to his campaign with his embrace of fringe far-right figures such as Laura Loomer, Steele said.
He added that Vice President Kamala Harris is taking the opposite approach and trying to appeal to a broader group of voters as the Democratic nominee.
“Kamala Harris is going to go out and have Republicans like myself and others support her, along with fellow travelers of independent voters, people of color, people from different experiences coming to the table, because they don’t want to look backward,” Steele said.
Velshi noted that Harris is going into Republican strongholds to win over voters.
Steele said he thinks Harris doesn’t need to win over large numbers of Republicans in those areas, but can win the election by taking just 2-4% of GOP voters there.
