Hollyoaks star Ruby O'Donnell has spoken to Digital Spy about Peri Lomax's involvement in the show's radicalisation storyline.

Peri's uncle Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) is currently being manipulated by far-right extremists Jonny Baxter and Stuart Sumner. Next week's episodes see Ste's loved ones finally discover the full truth about Jonny and Stuart's background and their intentions, leaving them deeply worried.

In a video interview with Digital Spy about Peri's role in the story, Ruby explained: "This whole time, Jonny has been let into her life, let into her house, into her family. For it to come out that it's just a complete lie and that he's part of the far-right movement, she'll be absolutely fuming.

"Obviously Peri knows that Jonny is a bad guy. She's got that impression of him now. We know something's wrong, we know something's up with Stuart as well. We're all trying to get Ste back on side already, before we know how bad it gets.

"[Peri is] going to be involved because he's her family. She absolutely adores Ste. So as soon as the truth comes out, she's going to be right on side to try to get him back."

Scenes airing next month see Peri face Ste's fury when he discovers that she has agreed to be a bridesmaid at Sami Maalik and Liberty Savage's wedding.

Ruby added: "They start trying on all the traditional outfits, just to have a bit of fun and take selfies.

"Ste sees Peri in this traditional wear. He's obviously been told that it's wrong and he attacks Peri in the street.

"Peri's very confused in her mind because he's family, but he's doing all these really bad things. She's so conflicted in her head.

"Peri has got to basically choose between Ste and the right thing. She loves Ste so much, so there's an inner battle going on – with Peri and Leela versus Ste."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
