Failed Russian attempt to create buffer zone in Kharkiv Oblast results in civilian casualties

Russian troops launched a ground attack in northeastern Kharkiv Oblast and advanced one kilometer near Vovchansk to create a buffer zone, civilian casualities reported, Reuters wrote, citing a senior Ukrainian military source on May 10.

This offensive “opens a new front” in the war. Currently, fighting in the border areas of Kharkiv Oblast goes on. Ukraine sent additional forces to reinforce it.

Reuters source noted that Russian troops are trying to push Ukrainian Armed Forces 10 kilometers from Russian border, but Ukrainian soldiers are succeeding holding them back.

At the same time, Russians are massively shelling border villages and cities of Kharkiv Oblast, resulting in deaths and injuries, said Kharkiv governor Oleh Synehubov on Telegram on May 10.

According to Synehubov, at 9:45 a.m. EET, Russians attacked village of Buhaivka in Vovchansk community. Shelling damaged one house. There were no casualties.

At about 10 a.m., Russians shelled the city of Vovchansk, injuring two civilians.

At 12:50 p.m., a 55-year-old civilian man was killed as a result of shelling of Cherkaski Tyshky village in Kharkiv Oblast.

In the middle of the day, at 13:22 p.m., Russians struck Vovchansk again, hitting a house, wounding a 60-year-old woman. At the same time, a civilian man was killed and two others were injured as a result of hostile shelling of a private household, one of the wounded man was under the rubble of the house.

Russian assault in Kharkiv Obalst

Ministry of Defense reported that Russian troops attempted to break through Ukrainian defense line in Vovchansk sector of Kharkiv Oblast at about 5 a.m. EET on May 10. Armed Forces repelled invaders' attacks.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCI), Andriy Kovalenko, said that despite escalation at the front, Russia does not have resources to reach Kharkiv.

Syniehubov said that Ukrainian Armed Forces are confidently holding their positions and have not lost a single meter of territory in Kharkiv Oblast.

DeepState analysts also reported that enemy begun to intensify its activities in the Kharkiv Oblast. Russia is trying to enter and gain a foothold in a number of settlements along the border, in particular, in Strilecha - Krasne - Pylna - Borysivka villages. Enemy is also attempting to enter settlements of Hatyshche and Pletenivka.
