A day after Kanye West hosted a campaign rally in which he grew extremely emotional, spoke about his decision with wife Kim Kardashian not to abort their eldest daughter North and made widely disputed, inaccurate comments about Harriet Tubman, the rapper and designer shared a series of concerning statements on Twitter.

In a series of tweets, many of which have now been deleted, West accuses Kim Kardashian and his mother-in-law Kris Jenner of trying to have him 'locked up'.

The 43-year-old also compared his life to the horror movie Get Out and alluded to his wife's past, including when the beauty entrepreneur posed nude for Playboy (documented in a Keeping up with the Kardashians episode) and a 2007 sex tape she made with her ex-boyfriend Ray J, which was leaked online.

He also shared a screengrab of a text exchange, seemingly with Kris Jenner, which said: 'This is Ye. You ready to talk now or are you still avoiding my calls?'

In the past, West has spoken publicly about his experience with bipolar disorder. Concern for West first grew after it was reported that the Yeezy designer had been hospitalised for a psychiatric emergency in 2016, following a series of concert appearances in which he spoke to the crowd for lengthy portions of the show.

Bipolar disorder, according to the NHS, is characterised by episodes of extreme depression and mania (symptoms of which can include feeling very happy, having lots of energy, ambitions and plans, talking quickly and not feeling like eating or sleeping), lasting for weeks at a time.

Following West's appearance in South Carolina on Monday and his subsequent tweets, some fans have questioned whether he is currently experiencing a manic episode as part of his Bipolar condition and shared their concerns both through tweets and hashtags like #PrayForKanye.

On Monday, singer Halsey - who has also been honest and open about her experience of Bipolar disorder - shared her thoughts, without mentioning West by name.

In a series of statements, the 'Without Me' singer reminded her followers not to mock or cast swift judgement vilifying people who may be going through mental illness.

'No jokes right now. I have dedicated my career to offering education and insight about bipolar disorder and I’m so disturbed by what I’m seeing. Personal opinions about someone aside, a manic episode isn't a joke. If you can’t offer understanding or sympathy, offer your silence,' Halsey wrote.
