Fans Are Honoring Matthew Perry's Memory By Dining At The 'Friends' Apartment
While Central Perk was nothing more than a Hollywood set, there actually is a café below the iconic Friends building in NYC. And now, following Matthew Perry's untimely death late last week, fans of the sitcom are descending on the West Village restaurant to honor the late actor.
According to Page Six, the mediterranean eatery Little Owl—which has long drawn fans of the series—has been packed with patrons since Perry's passing. "People have been coming to the location to show their respect and laying out flowers and candles. While they are there, they decide to stop for a bite," one source told the outlet. "A lot of tourists have especially been busy stopping by," another resident added.

"The business is great for the establishment," a third chimed in. "I just hope it does not become a problem for me to get a table especially for brunch or dinner."
While business may be booming, Little Owl's chef and owner Joey Campanaro has not always been a fan of the attention. In 2019, hordes of Friends fans flocked to the building in honor of the show's 25th anniversary. They blocked entrances, wrote tributes on the walls, and crowded the sidewalks to take selfies. At the time, Campanaro estimated he dealt with “1,000, maybe more” tourists on that corner every day.
Matthew Perry was found dead at his Los Angeles home on Saturday following a reported drowning. Friends, family, and fans alike have been mourning the loss of the actor in days since.
"We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family," Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer said in a joint statement statement to PEOPLE. "There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."
