A routine FedEx delivery turned into a frightening event when a delivery driver collapsed while delivering a package, but luckily a local state senator was around to help save the day.

FedEx driver Adonis Whitner collapsed in front of a homeowner while on his usual route in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, June 13, according to ABC affiliate WTAE-TV. In addition to getting the help of homeowner Mark Macala, who called 911, neighbor Sen. Devlin Robinson also showed up after seeing what happened on his own doorbell camera.

"I flopped him over and saw he wasn't breathing, so I gave him a sternum rub, and that seems like what opened up was his airway," Robinson told the outlet.

Speaking with TribLive, Macala said that the driver "collapsed like a ton of bricks."

“It’s not like he tripped and stumbled — he just went dark and was down. He was not responding, he was not breathing. I was doing my best to just get ahold of emergency personnel and do what I could," he said. "Thank the Lord (Robinson came over), he was able to help the guy get some breaths."

A GoFundMe was created to assist with Whitner’s medical expenses, which claimed he went into cardiac arrest.

“Thanks to the immediate intervention by the homeowner and his neighbor, Mark Macala and State Senator Devlin Robinson, Adonis was saved and transported to St. Clair Hospital where he remains hospitalized," read a message on the fundraiser, which has raised over $3,000 as of Monday, June 17.

“Adonis is currently conscious but will have a long road to recovery. He will be unable to work and will incur excessive medical bills," the message continued. "This fundraiser is to assist Adonis and his family with those expenses."

Sen. Robinson and the GoFundMe organizer did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
