Fire at 4 terrace units in East Coast Road as about 20 occupants evacuated
SINGAPORE — Four terrace house units along East Coast Road caught fire on Monday night (9 January), with about 20 people being evacuated by the police.
One person was assessed by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic for minor burn injury and conveyed to the Singapore General Hospital.
SCDF said in a Facebook post that they were alerted to the fire at about 11.50pm on Monday. Upon arrival, the fire had already spread to the four terrace house units.
Firefighters immediately set up water jets to surround and contain the fire. They deployed a combined platform ladder to conduct aerial firefighting to prevent the further spread of the fire. SCDF said that at the height of the operation, a total of six water jets were deployed.
About 20 occupants from the affected units, as well as neighbouring units, were evacuated by the police as a precautionary measure.
The fire was extinguished at about 1.50am on Tuesday. Besides the four terrace house units, two other adjacent terrace units also sustained varying degree of burn damages.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
