First-gamer's incredible trick play ends 636-day winless drought

Rookie Baker Mayfield capped off and incredible trick-play in the Cleveland Brown’s first win in over 600 days.

Mayfield, the first overall pick of the NFL draft, came off the bench in the second quarter after their first-choice quarterback suffered a concussion.

Cleveland were trailing the New York Jets 14-0, and were without a win since December 24, 2016 – and that’s when the magic happened.

After the Browns scored to cut the Jets’ lead to 14-12, Cleveland ran a trick-play much the same as the Philadelphia Eagles’ “Philly Special”.

Despite being a quarterback, Mayfield’s most notable play might have been a catch after all.

Mayfield started in the quarterback position, before shifting left as the snap made its way directly to running back Duke Johnson.

From there, Johnson took off to the right and handed off to wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

By this time, Mayfield had found himself in unfamiliar territory and completely unmarked in the end zone – with a superb left-handed throw by Landry to Mayfield capping off the play.

“Is that Cleveland Cleveland? What are we calling that one?” asked the stunned commentator.

Mayfield caught it for the game-tying two-point conversion. That’s when the night seemed like it was becoming a bit magical.

You’d think a rookie, with little practice time during a short week in his NFL debut, might crack under pressure.

Especially considering what this Week 3 game meant in Cleveland. But in the fourth quarter, after the Jets took a 17-14 lead, Mayfield seemed like the calmest guy on the field.

He didn’t have one highlight play on the Browns’ go-ahead drive, just a ton of really nice throws to keep the drive going. They’ll talk about it for a long time in Cleveland.

Mayfield completed 17-of-23 passes for 201 yards and, of course, was the key figure in the Browns’ first win since Christmas Eve two yeas ago.
