Warning: This article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones 'Dragonstone'.

Game of Thrones was back last night and it wasn't just the White Walkers (with some notable 'Hardhome' additions) heading towards the seven kingdoms.

Indeed, as the episode got underway, viewers in their millions tuned in to catch the latest goings on in Westeros and even beyond the wall.

Unfortunately for some viewers, this proved more difficult than intended as the HBO saga proved to be so popular upon its seventh season premiere, it crashed the HBO website, meaning some fans missed out on the first half of the episode.

Hmm. We smell vengeance on the horizon.

According to various user reports, fans who tried to watch the episode were met with a error message when they accessed the website, saying there was a problem loading the page.

Others complained of slow buffering on HBO's streaming service Now, which also failed to load for some viewers during the first half hour.

Fortunately for them, the website returned to working order during the final half of the episode's East Coast premiere – and what a premiere it was.

'Dragonstone' saw the return of many fan favourite characters as forces from all sides lined up for the battles between the seven kingdoms and against the White Walkers respectively.

While we heard nothing from Dorne or Highgarden, we caught up with Arya at The Twins; Jon, Sansa, Littlefinger and Brienne at Winterfell, Cersei, Jaime and Euron Greyjoy in King's Landing, Sam at the Citadel – and finally, the return of Daenerys to Dragonstone for the first time since the earlier seasons.

But this time, she's much richer and also has three dragons.

Right. Shall we begin?
