New York Fashion Week is in full swing, and while the runway looks are a preview of what’s to come next spring and summer, the street-style moments offer insight into some major trends for the season ahead (aka, fall 2023). We saw suiting! We saw pops of red! We saw kitten heels! But there’s one trend that’s remaining at the forefront — err, forefoot? — of fall fashion: clogs.
Clogs aren’t new, nor or are they making a return, and that’s because they’ve been around for, well, ever. Celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Jessica Parker swear by their sensible, workwear-esque shoes that combine fashion with function. Characterized by their wooden sole and elongated leather-front upper for proper foot coverage, today’s clogs still have that signature silhouette, but with some more modern-day spins, like the addition of stud detailing, an upgraded heel, and more. In fact, supermodel Gisele Bündchen’s pair proves that the 2023 clog is equal parts sexy and sensible — so if you think of your mom’s garden shoes the second you read the word “clogs,” think again. These aren’t those.
Bündchen has been busy attending New York Fashion Week, and to no one’s surprise, she’s been slaying the style game. For a recent outing, the supermodel went pantless, wearing an XXL Frame denim jacket, plus what appeared to be a black bralette underneath the jean topper.

Such a mini hemline put her bold shoes on full display, a pair of black leather stiletto clogs with a back strap for both a stylish and practical touch. Bonus: Her pair was also sprinkled with studs along the base, plus they had a dark-stained wooden sole that leaned more elegant. If you had written off clogs, I’d bet anything that Bündchen’s pair will make you reconsider.
All that to say, clogs are cool now; they’re not the shoes they used to be, and that’s certainly due to the celebrity backing we’ve seen. As we know, a star can make anything that’s not technically “cool” cool, and that’s exactly what’s happening with the clog. That said, the shoe also provides unmatched comfort, so it still offers powerful appeal on its own. It’s just about changing your perspective on the bygone clog, and being open to seeing the updated versions of 2023.
