Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid have celebrated their 'engagement' on Loose Women after Piers mock-proposed on Good Morning Britain with a £1 Poundland ring.

Speaking on GMB, Piers explained: "I just thought that if the world is about to end, it is that moment when you turn to the one you secretly love...

"And you present her with... what more could a woman want than a... £1 tiny little ring from Poundland to show the real depth of my feelings for you."

Reid replied: "You have a funny way of showing it!"

Piers also joked about their 'engagement', tweeting a photo of Reid wearing her ring, with the well-observed social media caption: "OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #SheSaidYes."

The pair later appeared on Loose Women to celebrate their happy news, with Piers revealing: "I've bought the ring. It was one pound from Poundland."

"I'd just like to point out, as soon as he said it on air, I was getting congratulations [from] journalists, magazine editors, friends," Susanna added.

"Do you know who was happiest? My wife," Piers quipped. "'Take him, take him!'"

Quite alarmingly, Susanna had to clarify that the 'engagement' was a joke. She wrote on Twitter: "I’ve had to keep explaining today a) we are not engaged. b) we are not actually a couple."

While Piers and Susanna were in the LW studio, the subject of the National Television Awards 2019 came up, in which GMB and Loose Women are both nominated.

"Susanna's promised if we win to go on an eight-hour bender that night and present Good Morning Britain drunk," said Piers.

"It is going to be worth watching. Secondly, I have decided to offer to go vegan for a week, which I know will actually kill me. So if you vote for us, she will present the show drunk and I will die."

The Loose Women panel were getting competitive though, as they blocked Piers' face with a 'Vote Loose Women' graphic as he spoke.

The NTAs ceremony will be broadcast live on ITV on January 22 from The O2 London and hosted by Dermot O'Leary.
