In episode 6, Jon (Kit Harington) and his crew – having successfully captured a wight – found themselves overwhelmed by an army of the undead and were saved in the nick of time by Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

But not everybody made it out alive.

The Night King threw a spear at one of Daenerys's dragons (Viserion), striking a killing blow.

Viserion ended up being raised from the dead, becoming part of The Night King's army.

"It's a heartbreak," Emilia Clarke told Entertainment Weekly. "Not only losing it but having that being given to the other side.

"My dragon could not have died for nothing, so this is now so important. For the first time, you're starting to see her defences broken."

Game of Thrones season seven concludes next Sunday (August 27) with a movie-length finale at 9pm on HBO in the US. It will be simulcast at 2am on Sky Atlantic on Monday (August 28) in the UK.
