Watch: Touching video captures granddaughter and grandad singing together in lockdown

A woman has been helping her grandfather battle loneliness by singing with him during lockdown.

Yazzy Chamberlain, 21, is a singer-songwriter from Devon who has been filming her 87-year-old grandfather and herself singing duets together in lockdown.

Chamberlain’s grandfather has been isolating in order to protect him from COVID-19, but singing with his granddaughter has helped him tremendously throughout the period.

“I love singing with Grandad," Chamberlain says. "He usually comes and watches me at my gigs, he'll sit in the corner with a pint and occasionally he'll start singing along from his seat, usually to: Can't help falling in love with you.

“I enjoyed making these videos of my own singing, but thought it would be nice for granddad to record some clips with me, and everyone seems to love it and love him."

Chamberlain says performing alongside with her grandfather has given the pair a chance to spend lots more time together and helped both of them overcome any lockdown difficulties.

“Lockdown has definitely been a struggle at times; however, it has given us both the quality time to spend together," she explains.

“I am a singer/songwriter so often I am gigging, or away recording in London, so I live a busy life and sometimes it's hard to make the time to share these moments, so whilst this last year has had many testing times, I think we are both grateful to see a light at the end of the tunnel and have had so many positive moments because of our singing.”
