Grandparents, Grandson Among 4 Killed When Car Is Rear-Ended, Pushed Into Oncoming Traffic
“Investigators do not believe that impaired driving was a factor in this crash,” according to state police
A Maryland community is mourning after a three-car crash left four people dead, including a grandson and two of his grandparents.
The collision occurred Saturday afternoon when a Saturn rear-ended a Chevrolet Equinox that had stopped while attempting to turn left onto Skidmore Road from Liberty Road in Carroll County, according to a news release from Maryland State Police.
The Equinox, driven by 72-year-old Charles Black III, was pushed into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes of Skidmore Road, where the vehicle was struck by a third car, described by authorities as a Ford F-350.
Charles and two passengers — Barbara Black, 69 and Debbie Hill, 63, of New Windsor — were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, MSP said.
Two other passengers from the Chevrolet — Gage Black, 17, and Phillip Ceresa, 15, of New Windsor — were transported to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with undisclosed injuries. Gage later died.
Charles and Barbara were Gage’s grandparents, and Debbie was Barbara’s sister, according to The Baltimore Sun.
Loved ones have started a GoFundMe campaign “to help with burial costs.” More than $20,000 has been raised as of Monday afternoon.
