7 Actually Exciting Things to Do While You Stay Home This Weekend

Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, life seems to be put on pause as movie theaters, museums, and even Sephoras and Glossiers are temporarily shutting down as a precaution to prevent the virus's spread. Several communities have already committed to shelter-in-place policies directing everyone to stay inside their homes and away from others as much as possible, while everyone else has been encouraged to socially distance from other people to curb the virus's rapid spread.

Although you may have to pump the breaks on your social life for a bit, take it from an introvert: You can still have fun indoors while we try to ride out this unprecedented reality. Ahead, we've rounded up a few ways to make the most out of this time in self-isolation.

Catch Up on Apple TV

With so many new streaming platforms debuting (Quibi, anyone?), you'd be forgiven for missing out on some of Apple TV's new programs. Thankfully, Apple has made some of its content free. Here's what you can stream for free without a subscription: Wildlife documentary The Elephant Queen, narrated by Chiwetel Eljiofor, Little America, the anthology series about immigrant life in America; Servant, M. Night Shymalan’s thriller series about a couple mourning a tragedy; astronaut drama For All Mankind; Dickinson, starring Hailee Steinfeld; live-action preschool series Helpsters; the Ghostwriter reboot; and Snoopy in Space.

Every person in the party needs to have their own Netflix account, and it may not be the same as being in the same room as your friends, but it's about the easiest way to stay connected via your favorite shows — so go ahead and dive into that marathon of The Office.

With concerns over the virus looming, several world-famous museums like the Met in New York City and the Louvre in Paris have shuttered temporarily, but the internet has made it possible for you to see some of the most famous paintings and artifacts in the world, right from your couch.

Take a virtual walk through London's British Museum, Paris's Musée D'Orsay, Los Angeles's Getty Museum, or Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum.

In-Home Movie Theater

Although several upcoming movies like Mulan, A Quiet Place 2, and Black Widow have delayed their release, some movies currently in theaters will drop on video on demand early. Starting Friday, March 20, Universal is dropping the following movies for rent online for $19.99 each: The Invisible Man, Emma, and The Hunt. On March 24, The Gentleman and Birds of Prey will also drop online, so if you have a projector, now's the time to break it out for your own movie-going experience.
