Harley Reid sparks AFL fan frenzy after appearance at girlfriend Yasmin Duursma's debut

Harley Reid can't even support girlfriend Yasmin Duursma during her AFLW debut for Carlton without it leading to speculation about where his future lies. And that's exactly what happened on Wednesday night.

Duursma was picked to make her debut for Carlton against North Melbourne in the AFLW, joining her brothers Zane and Xavier at Victorian teams this year. Zane Duursma plays for North Melbourne in the men's comp, while Xavier is currently at Essendon.

Yasmin played 11 games across the last two seasons with Port Adelaide, before joining Xavier (also a former Power player) in moving back to Melbourne in 2024. On Wednesday night, Zane and Xavier were both on hand to support Yasmin as she debuted for Carlton, as were their parents.

Yasmin has presented her guernsey by men's coach Michael Voss, and was beaming with pride as she posed for photos. And another keen observer was boyfriend and West Coast Eagles star Reid, who was spotted looking rather nervous and chewing his finger nails.

Reid was sitting next to Zane and in front of Xavier throughout the match, and predictably, it lit up social media with speculation about which club he'll join next. Reid was drafted No.1 overall by the Eagles this year, but rumours are always lingering that he'll make a move back to Victoria once his current contract expires.

Reid is from country Victoria and would probably prefer to play in Melbourne, but has constantly denied speculation he'll look to leave the Eagles as soon as possible. On Wednesday night, comments were flying thick and fast about whether he'll eventually move to Carlton (to be with Yasmin), North Melbourne (to play with Zane) or Essendon (to join Xavier).

Reid ignited the speculation earlier this year when he spoke out about how lonely he felt on his 19th birthday that he was on the other side of the country to his friends and family. “In April there’s three of our birthdays," he said. "I missed my sister’s, and mine too - I got to spend that on my own. It was probably the worst birthday.”

Reid was given the week off in round seven and got permission from the Eagles to fly home to Tongala to catch up with his loved-ones. “It was good to get back and I felt like I needed to see the family. It was good to connect back there with them," he said at the time.

“Sometimes on your day off you’d love to drive around and see your family but obviously you can’t, so it was good to get a weekend home and see the family. I’m 19, I’ve never moved out of home, so I don’t know any different without my parents around and my family.”

The comments sparked renewed rumours that Reid was home-sick and wanted out of Perth, but he later clarified: “I don’t really feel that I’ve been home-sick at all. You’re so busy over here and the club’s been huge (in) that regard. I think for me it’s been good to get away - you get into a new home, you learn new things. I haven’t done life without my family, so it’s good for a change.

“I wouldn’t say I’ve felt home-sick at all, I just felt like it was a great time of year to get back and see my family and friends. I don’t really know Perth at all so I don’t really know where to go, but the club’s been huge, [coach Adam Simpson has] given me little outlets to go and I try get away when I can, but you get pretty busy at times and you don’t really know what to do with yourself.”
