Havana Rose Liu Latest To Join John Carney’s ‘Power Ballad’

EXCLUSIVE: Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms) is the newest addition to the cast of Power Ballad, John Carney’s musical comedy for 30West and Likely Story, which stars Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, as we were first to tell you.

Also starring Jack Reynor, Power Ballad is currently in production in Dublin. While plot details are being kept mostly under wraps, the film is described as an uplifting, music-driven story about a wedding singer, a rock star, and the song that comes between them.

Carney and Peter McDonald wrote the script. Producers include Anthony Bregman and Peter Cron for Likely Story, Robert Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan for Treasure Entertainment, and Carney, all of whom produced Carney’s most recent film, Flora and Son, for Apple TV+. 30West has fully financed the project and is handling domestic sales along with WME Independent and UTA Independent Film Group. WME Independent is also handling international, having introduced the project to buyers in Cannes.

An actress and model best known for starring opposite Rachel Sennott, Ayo Edibiri, and Kaia Gerber in MGM’s comedy Bottoms from filmmaker Emma Seligman, Liu has also previously been seen in the 20th/Hulu thriller No Exit, Josephine Decker’s romantic drama The Sky Is Everywhere for Apple TV+ and A24, and FX’s anthology series American Horror Stories.

Up next, Liu will be seen starring in the Sony horror They Listen, Amazon MGM’s holiday comedy Oh. What. Fun, on which we were first to report, and Cooper Raiff’s buzzy, independently financed TV series Hal & Harper, starring Raiff, Mark Ruffalo, and Lili Reinhart. She is represented by CAA, Anonymous Content, and Schreck Rose Dapello.
